FORT WAYNE, IN (February 8, 2014) –The Fort Wayne Mad Ants overcame a shaky first half to beat the Sioux Falls Skyforce 93-81 Saturday evening at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The Ants held the Skyforce to just 29 second half points on their way to the victory.
The Skyforce came out of the gate strong in the first quarter and put on a clinic of how a team should move the ball on offense. Sioux Falls took a thirteen-point lead in that quarter when Tre Kelley hit a three pointer from the wing, and they cruised to a 28-17 lead after the first quarter.
The Mad Ants chipped away in the second quarter and were down six at the half, but it was the third quarter where the Ants made their move. The Ants went on a 15-5 run to start the third quarter and take a four-point lead at the 5:29 mark. They continued to build that lead to as high as ten when Tony Mitchell hit a tough runner, and the Ants were took it home from there to earn the twelve point victory.
Sioux Falls had five players in double figures and were led by Henry Walker’s 15 points, A.J. Davis’ 13 points, and DeAndre Liggins 13 points.
Tony Mitchell led the Ants with 18, with Orlando Johnson chipping in 13, Ron Howard 12, and Detroit Pistons’ assignee Tony Mitchell having one of his best games with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
