COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WANE) – U.S. 30 was closed for nearly five hours Wednesday after two tractor-trailers collided near County Road 300 East.
Emergency personnel responded to the crash around 6 p.m. after one semi rear-ended another semi stopped at a traffic light, according to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department.
The stopped semi was driven by Michael Ricklefs, 43, Davenport, Iowa. Ricklefs was pinned inside the cab of the truck and was extricated by firefighters. He was taken to Parkview Whitley Hospital with cuts to his arms and legs.
The second semi was driven by Tirean Blair, 57, Brunswick, Ohio. Blair was not hurt in the crash.
Both tractor-trailers were totaled as a result of the crash.
Crews closed U.S. 30 westbound for 4 1/2 hours while crews investigated and cleaned up debris.
The Union Township Fire Department, Columbia City Fire Department, and Whitley County Hazmat assisted with the crash investigation.
