FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Demetrius Masterson was shot and killed in his home on the east side of Fort Wayne Sunday night.

Police are unsure of a motive in the killing. However, Masterson had a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2002.

His felony convictions dates back to 2005 and 2006 when he was arrested and charged with two drug related felonies. Masterson’s sentence was suspended, but it didn’t take long for him to get in trouble with the law again.

In 2007, he was charged with criminal recklessness and ended up serving three years. After serving that sentence, he was released, but, he soon found himself in trouble again.

In November of 2010, Masterson was involved in a gun battle at Rick O’ Shay’s Irish Pub on Parnell. Masterson was one of three people who were shot that night, but he ended up being the sole survivor.

After being released from the hospital, he was arrested for his part in the Rick O’ Shay’s fight as well as firing multiple rounds at a house. He pleaded guilty to ‘Criminal Recklessness’ and served around six months in jail.

In 2010, police believed the shooting was gang related. However, they aren’t commenting on whether they think Masterson’s death may be related to that shooting three years ago.

Masterson is the 42nd homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County this year.
