FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -The man who told police he was suicidal when he caused a crash in front of Canterbury Green apartments last week is in jail with no bond. The crash victim is in a medically induced coma and is now paralyzed from the waist down, according to court documents.

Police said 32-year-old Jeremiah Therkelsen purposely crashed his car into a car driven by Lamonta Green on February 7 in an attempt to kill himself. After the crash, Therkelsen got out of his car and punched another car’s windshield, causing it to shatter.

Green was taken to Parkview Hospital in critical condition. Police said as of February 9, Green was in a medically induced coma. He has a broken spine and was paralyzed from the waist down as a result of the crash. Hospital officials said Green also suffered a “shearing injury” to his head, which may cause long-term complications.

Therkelsen told detectives that he got into a fight with his wife prior to the crash. He said he tried to kill himself twice.

“I closed my eyes and put my foot on the gas,” Therkelson said.
