Yearly rain gauge running above average by a foot for 2017

I was crunching some climate stats in the weather center this morning and discovered that at this point in the year, the Fort Wayne rain gauge is running about a foot above average! We’ve picked up over 47.5″ of rainfall so far this year. That ranks as the 4th wettest year on record (so far). Here’s a look at the top 5 wettest years on record:

Top 5 wettest months in Fort Wayne. Data: cliMATE, MRCC.

According to climate data, the wettest year on record in The Summit City was back in 1990 when we picked up 54.58″ of rain. It’s unlikely we’ll best that this year, but it’s certainly possible we may creep into the top 3!
