Hurricane Irma is weakening, but weather alerts now extend as far north as North Carolina. Schools as far west as western Alabama have canceled Monday and Tuesday because of the effects that will be felt from Irma.
The hurricane is now a category 2 storm posing incredible flooding problems throughout Florida.
It is expected to weaken further to a category 1 overnight as it passes Tampa.
The forecast track now shows it weakening to a tropical storm as it enters the mainland/leaves the Florida peninsula.
We won’t start to feel Irma’s effects until very late Tuesday. Rain will be possible here through Thursday as a result of this system.
