Thursday severe weather threat

Today will be another summer-like day with temperatures climbing all the way into the upper 80s again! And just like a summer day, we’ve got the chance for a few showers and storms to pop up. Our best chance for any storms will be late this afternoon and into this evening, primarily from the 5-10p window. Showers and storms will fire along a cold front that will cross our area before midnight tonight and bring an end to the unseasonable warmth we’ve had over the past few days. Some of these storms may be strong to severe – which is why the Storm Prediction Center has put most of our viewing area in a “slight risk” for later today.

The primary threats we’ll be watching for are damaging wind gusts (50+ mph) and large hail (1″+ in diameter), though an isolated tornado may be possible in any supercells that may pop up. This threat is low, but still possible. It’s important that you stay weather aware later today! We’ll keep you posted with the latest on NewsChannel 15 and your WANE WX app should any severe storms develop.
