Big winter blast along the east coast today

You may be wondering how kind of a ho-hum weather system that moved through our region yesterday is causing areas along the east coast to experience feet of snow. The simple explanation is it’s not.

The system that moved through our area phased with another powerful ocean system and has created a mega-storm which encompasses the entire east coast. The most dangerous part of this system is in the northeast where the ‘phasing’ took place. That’s where most of the snow will fall.

In 1978, the reason we got so much snow was due to the same concept. Two low-pressure systems phased, one with potent Gulf of Mexico moisture, causing a mega-storms and dumping feet of snowfall.
