Community plans unity walk to end violence

The walk is set to begin at the Unity Barbershop located on 921 Pontiac Street at 9.a.m. The group will march downtown to the Martin Luther King bridge.

Teams compete in the Goalball National Championship at Turnstone's Plassman Athletic Center on Saturday.

National Goalball team calls Turnstone home, facility has Paralympic hopes

Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities is already the training ground for the Mens National Goalball team– a sport for the visually impaired. During a site visit Friday, a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee said Turnstone has what it takes to be a fully certified Paralympic training facility.

Celebrations planned around such themes as supporting transgender people and pressing for economic justice have quickly taken on new meanings. Parade-goers will see increased security, anti-violence messages and tributes to those killed in Orlando.

Gina Dodson said her son is out of the hospital recovering from a gun shot wound to his lower back. Police said Officer Robert Hollo shot him during an investigation and chase on Smith Street on Tuesday. Dodson is asking for that officer to be removed from the streets permanently.
