4 people escape Decatur Road house fire

A fire broke out in a home at 7420 Decatur Road in Fort Wayne on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2017.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A south Fort Wayne home was damaged by fire Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called around 10 a.m. Tuesday to a home at 5420 Decatur Road, near Bishop Luers High School, on a report of a fire there. A photo submitted by a viewer showed smoke rising high from the two-story home.

Officials told NewsChannel 15 that two adults and two children escaped and nobody was hurt. It’s not clear how many people were inside at the time.

The fire started in the attic area of the home, officials said.

Crews were able to contain the fire in just under 20 minutes, according to a report.

The Red Cross was called out to support the residents, the report said.

It’s not clear how the fire started. The blaze is under investigation.
