FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The owner of Flashback on the Landing and Early Birds has announced both venues will be closing. Todd Smith revealed the news on social media that the nightclubs will close on January 6.
He thanked the community for its support for over the last 17 years. A post was also made on Flashback on the Landing’s Facebook page late Thursday night.
Flashbacks was known for playing music from the 70s, 80s, 90s and today. Early Birds focused on giving visitors a VIP experience.
Smith said closing the two places was not a financial decision.
“We’re basically changing our format and moving on. It’s good to go out on top,” he said.
He has a new vision for 2018. It includes renovating Early Birds and neighboring Yolo Event Center on North Wells. However, Yolo will stay open. Smith’s vision will most likely become a reality in the spring.
“As far as the new facility I’ve done a really good job at Mitchell’s [Sports and Neighborhood Grill],” Smith said. “We brought a different concept to the Southwest side of town with live entertainment and food and sports and entertainment. Maybe that’s the route I’m going. You never know.”
Smith also owns Mitchell’s Sports and Neighborhood Grill on West Jefferson.
Flashbacks sits on Columbia Street Downtown. As the city focuses on Downtown revitalization Smith will not be a part of it.
“Their vision is a little different than the nightclub that’s there,” Smith said. “I’m not mad about it at all. I understand that’s their vision.”
