Woman crashes into trees, critically hurt

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A woman was critically hurt after going off-road and crashing into trees Friday morning.

The crash happened on W. State. Blvd. near the intersection of Wood Valley Drive, shortly before 7:30 a.m.

According to police, a woman had to be pulled from the car by firefighters.

She was taken to the hospital and last listed in critical condition.

Police tell NewsChannel 15, investigators believe the driver was headed east on W. State Blvd. at a high rate of speed and crossed to the wrong side of the road before making impact with the trees.

Alcohol is believed to have played a factor in the crash.

No other injuries reported.

W. State. Blvd. was closed to traffic as police investigated.
