FWPD: Pregnant woman shot at Fort Wayne apartment complex

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne police are looking for two male suspects after a pregnant woman was shot inside a car late Tuesday night, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Officers were called to a parking lot near Lewis Street and Barr Street around 10 p.m., next to the FWCS Career Academy.

FWPD said the shooting happened at the Chapel Oaks Apartments in the 900 block of Buchanan Street. Officers located shell casings and pieces of glass from a broken window that belonged to the car the woman was inside of when the shooting happened. Police said the woman – along with three other people in the car, drove about one mile to the downtown parking lot before calling police.

Police said the two possible suspects were dressed in all black and ran off after the shooting. A police K-9 officer attempted a track at the apartment complex but was unable to locate anyone. No arrests have been made and no additional information about the suspects was available.

No one else in the car was hurt.

Police confirmed the woman was approximately five months pregnant and was shot in the leg. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening and the woman is expected to survive.

Police questioned the individuals who were in the car with the woman. They were eventually released.

At the downtown parking lot, several police car surrounded the victim’s black car. Pieces of glass were visible in the parking lot and the driver’s side window was shattered.

The vehicle was eventually towed away.

The incident is under investigation.
