Squirrel to blame for outage that left thousands without power

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE)  At one point Tuesday morning, Indiana Michigan Power reported about 4,200 customers were without power in an area which includes part of New Haven and a large surrounding area in  Allen County.

The number of customers without power was down to less than 100 as of 11:45 a.m.

According to Tracy Warner of I&M, the utility expects power to be completely restored yet this morning pending testing.

Even though severe weather rumbled through the area and may have been the cause of fires started by lightning strikes, this outage was caused by a squirrel, not the weather according to Warner.

I&M expects to have the power restored later Tuesday morning.
