FWFD rescues man from burning house

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – One person was critically hurt after a house caught fire on the city’s north side Sunday afternoon.

Fort Wayne firefighters were called to 6515 Woodthrush Drive at 2:57 p.m. The home is located in the Tanbark Housing Addition off Maplecrest and Rothman Roads.

FWFD officials said when they arrived they immediately conducted a search. Looking through a window they could see a man in a bedroom and unable to escape. Firefighters pulled the man through the window. The person, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

No one else was inside the home and no other injuries were reported.

FWFD officials said three cats died in the fire and three other animals were rescued. Animal Care and Control was called to assist with the pets, according to the department.

The home has considerable damaged on the inside. A department report said the home sustained moderate fire and water damage and heavy smoke damage.

It took firefighters approximately 15 minutes to get the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
