FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Area Family Video locations are hosting a “Fill the Sleigh” event for victims of the Gatlinburg wildfires. The event will run from Friday, December 16 to Thursday, January 5.
According to Chad Rice, manager of the East State location of Family Video in Fort Wayne, the store canceled their “holiday bizarre,” a large community event, to dedicate their time to help the victims of Gatlinburg. Rice said the East State store does a community event every few months but decided to expand that for the victims of Gatlinburg.
For those who donate items, Family Video is offering $3 movie rentals.
Some of the needed items include the following:
- General medicines/first aid
- Small household appliances
- Gently used clothing
- Pet supplies
- Non-perishable foods
- Monetary donations from businesses or gift cards
On Friday, Santa made an appearance at the East State location of the video store in support of the event.
The managers from the 5 locations will physically take the items in three trailers down to Tennessee on January 8 and work with the foundation to hand them out.
The video store is working with Dolly Parton’s My People Fund, an organization that is working to bring needed items to wildfire victims. You can write a check and drop it off for the victims. If you opt to write a check, Family Video asks that you make it out to Dolly’s Parton’s My People Fund.
