Fort Wayne bounces back with 40-point win over Austin Peay

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Fort Wayne limited Austin Peay to 32.3 percent shooting in a 98-58 victory for the Mastodons on Saturday (Dec. 10) at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

Austin Peay’s Josh Robinson entered the contest averaging 21.5 points per game. The ‘Dons limited him to four points on 2-of-12 shooting. The Governors’ John Murray was averaging better than 15 points a contest. He finished 3-of-10 with eight points. All told, Murray and Robinson finished a combined 5-of-22.

The Mastodons’ defense helped Fort Wayne jump out to a 26-6 advantage over the first seven minutes. Fort Wayne doubled up the Governors at half, 48-24, and would only extend their lead in the final 20 minutes.

Five ‘Dons finished in double-digits. Bryson Scott shot 7-of-12 with 19 points. Brent Calhoun had a career-high 16 points. Mo Evans and John Konchar each had 14 points. Konchar added 10 rebounds and three steals for a double-double. Kason Harrell pitched in 10 points.

Fort Wayne finished 50 percent (13-of-26) from beyond the arc. Austin Peay was 3-of-23 from three, including 0-of-11 in the decisive first half.

The ‘Dons are now 4-0 against Austin Peay since last year after playing them in a home and away series both years. The Governors were an NCAA Tournament squad last season after winning the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

Austin Peay falls to 4-5. Fort Wayne improves to 8-3. The ‘Dons are back in action on Sunday (Dec. 18) at Stetson in a 1 p.m. start.
