SAN DIEGO, Cal (WANE) – The San Diego Padres have traded Ossian native Josh VanMeter to the Cincinnati Reds as the player to be named later in a Rule 5 trade for catcher Luis Torrens.
VanMeter who was drafted in the fifth-round of the 2014 draft by San Diego reached Double-A last season but spent most of his year with High-A Lake Elsinore. Last year he was hitting .251 with 14 home runs over the course of the season. He also played in the Arizona Fall League where he hit .265 with one home run.
The Norwell grad played with the TinCaps in 2014 and 2015.
