Woman asks for donations to help sick cat, falsely represents American Legion

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The American Legion said Monday that the Better Business Bureau (BBB) has received several calls from members of the veterans’ organization reporting a Fort Wayne woman is supposedly representing the organization and that is collecting money to help a sick cat at the Humane Society in Huntington.

American Legion officers have told the woman to stop calling people, and that the organization supports veterans and not sick animals. According to a press release from the organization, the calls have persisted and are being reported to local police.

Another report indicated a call from someone claiming to be a vet in Ohio and that money for the cat needed to be sent directly the vet’s home.

If you receive a call like this, the American Legion advised that you let the BBB know on their scam tracker.
