Standoff ends peacefully after man threatened to harm himself

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The man who barricaded himself inside a home on the 1400 block of Sinclair Street has been taken into police custody without incident.

Police threw tear gas in the front and back door of the home. After doing so, the man exited the back door and was taken by police.

Police were called at 3:10 a.m. after a man threatened to harm himself. The first responding officers were not able to get the man out of the home to check on his condition.

Shortly after 4 a.m. Friday the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team were called to the area.

Police used a loudspeaker and horn in an attempt to contact the man.

FWCS was notified of the situation and adjusted area pickups for buses.
