Mad Ants dealt first loss of season by Raptors 905

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario – Will Sheehey led all scorers with 23 points as Raptors 905 beat Fort Wayne 109-107 in thrilling fashion. Jordan Loyd flirted with a triple-double for the Mad Ants, recording 12 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds off the bench.

Looking to bounce back after a tough loss on Tuesday, Raptors 905 traded baskets to open the game and finished the first quarter down by four. Trey McKinney-Jones led all scorers with 10 points for Fort Wayne.

In the second frame, CJ Leslie would come off the 905 bench and score six of his 16 points, leading the team in second quarter scoring. Conversely, Christian Watford entered the game for the Mad Ants and led all scorers in the quarter with nine points. Fort Wayne would build a 15-point lead, its largest lead of the game, late in the second quarter. Heading into half, the 905 trailed Fort Wayne 61-49.

Will Sheehey and Fred VanVleet would combine in the third quarter to put the 905 back in striking distance. VanVleet dished out eight of his game high 10 assists in the frame while Sheehey added 12 points. Heading into the final 12 minutes, Raptors 905 had trimmed the Mad Ants lead to four.

In the fourth, both team’s offences were driven by two players. The 905 enjoyed 10 points from CJ Leslie, while Fred VanVleet would contribute eight. Fort Wayne were led by Julyan Stone who shot three-for-five from three-point range for 10 points, while Travis Leslie complimented Stone’s effort with seven points of his own.

After being tied at the 1:46 mark, Raptors 905 used a late 6-0 run in the fourth to secure the victory. Fred VanVleet would score four straight points and EJ Singler would sink two free throws to push the lead to six. Fort Wayne would capitalize on their final possessions to have a chance to tie at the buzzer, but the 905 emerged unscathed as the Mad Ants were unable to convert as time ran out and the 905 would secure the 109-107 victory.
