Man shot at gas station ID’d; county sets all-time homicide mark

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The man shot to death in a South Lafayette Street gas station parking lot early Wednesday has been identified.

Sha Rif, 22, died of gunshot wounds. The Allen County Coroner’s Office ruled his death the county’s 46th homicide of 2016.

The killing sets a new record for the county. The 46 homicides breaks the previous high of 45 in 2013.

Officers were called to the Marathon gas station at Lafayette Avenue and South Clinton Street around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday for a reported shooting. Police told NewsChannel 15 that a 911 caller said a man who appeared to be shot was in the road.

When officers arrived at the gas station, they found Rif on the ground at the front door to the store, police said. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but died a short time later.
