FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A person was found dead after a house fire mid-morning Tuesday.
Fort Wayne firefighters were called just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to a home in the 4600 block of Fairfield Avenue. Fort Wayne Fire Department spokesman Adam O’Connor told NewsChannel 15 that police were conducting a wellness check at the home and realized there had been a fire.
Crews found an adult dead in the home. A cat was also killed. The fire was out.
It’s not clear what caused the fire. O’Connor said in the colder months, fires can put themselves out because homes are sealed up and the flames soak up the oxygen.
The victim was not identified and the cause of death is unknown. More information on the incident is expected to be released Wednesday, O’Connor said.
