Classic holiday tradition, “The Nutcracker” returns to Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The quintessential holiday tradition, “The Nutcracker” is returning to the Fort Wayne Ballet.

The classic two-act ballet premiered at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1892, scored by legendary composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The ballet has spawned countless stage productions, concerts, and film adaptions ever since.

The ballet follows a young girl named Clara who receives the gift of a nutcracker at a holiday party from her godfather. When Clara falls asleep, she enters a dream world where a giant, living nutcracker must fight a mouse king and his army.

The Fort Wayne Ballet will host nine performances from December 2 through December 11. Performances on the December 2 and 3 will feature the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.
