FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Trailing by 20 points in the second quarter Saint Francis rallied late to beat Mornigside 42-35 in NAIA quarterfinals Saturday at Bishop D’Arcy stadium
Coming off a 79-20 win the week before Saint Francis didn’t find the endzone until the final minute of the second quarter. Nick Ferrer found Seth Coate for a 12-yard connection to make it 20-7 at half.
Saint Francis scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter to take their first lead of the day 21-20. Morningside answered back with a score to make it 28-21 going into the fourth quarter.
Another Seth Coate touchdown tied the game and the senior’s third put the Cougars up for good. Justin Green added an insurance score in the fourth as the Cougars pulled away with the win.
Green led the Cougars with 296 yards on the ground. Coate had five catches for 124 yards with three touchdowns.
The win also gave head coach Kevin Donley his 300th win of his illustrious career.
