Indiana officer arrested for drunk driving

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A police officer from Hammond was arrested after an Indiana state trooper pulled him over for nearly driving his vehicle off the road and finding him intoxicated.

According to a press release from the Indiana State Police, while conducting a traffic stop on I-65 the state trooper observed a 2007 Honda black Civic that had passed the left lane. veer abruptly over to the exit ramp to SR 2. The vehicle nearly ran off the road, traveling completely onto the right shoulder of the highway.

The trooper ended the traffic stop to investigate the erratic driving behavior of the passing vehicle. After following the vehicle, the trooper observed the driver kept weaving while driving on the right shoulder.

The trooper pulled over Matthew L. Anderson, 30, and detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Anderson told the trooper he had weapons in his vehicle and that he was a Hammond police officer. He refused all tests offered to prove his sobriety and was arrested and taken to Lake County Jail where he has a bond of $1000, according to the press release.

Anderson is charged with operating while intoxicated and unsafe lane movement.
