FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The boys basketball season began in earnest on Wednesday night with Homestead edging rival Huntington North to highlight area hoops action.
Brandon Durnell led the reigning SAC champs with 18 points as Homestead defeated the Vikings 48-44. Jack Ferguson added 14 for the Spartans while Sam Buck chipped in 12. Huntington North’s Hunter Hollowell led all scorers with 23 points.
At Charger Fieldhouse Dan McKeeman scored 22 but it wasn’t enough as Carroll fell to South Bend Adams 75-66. Jacob Redding tallied 15 while Riley Perlich added 10 for the Chargers. South Bend Adams was led by Walter Ellis – the son of former Notre Dame star LaPhonso Ellis – with 25 points.
In Woodburn Whitney Harris scored 17 to lead New Haven over Woodlan 82-61. Diamond Towns added 14 for the Bulldogs. Aaron Hahn led the Warriors with 17 points while Austin Fancher scored 14.
Leo nipped Eastside 51-49 in overtime to open the season in Butler. Eli Steiner hit a bucket at the buzzer to earn the win for the Lions as Steiner led the way with 18 points.
At Donald S. Weeks Gymnasium Whitko took down Columbia City in a county rivalry game 60-41. Nate Walpole led the Wildcats with 30 points.
