FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – After going tit for tat in the opening minutes of the game (4) Saint Francis scored 59 unanswered points to defeat (11) Missouri Valley 79-20 in the first round of the NAIA playoffs.
The snowy conditions did not slow down the Saint Francis offense. Nick Ferrer was 22-of-35 with 352 passing yards with six touchdowns. Seth Coate hauled in three of those touchdown catches. The Homestead grad led the Cougars with 155 recieving yards. Akiem Kelsaw and Montay McDowell each had a touchdown catch. Justin Green and P.J. Dean each had two touchdowns on the ground with Aaron Harris adding adding a rushing TD of his own.
The Cougars have set a new NAIA playoff record with 79 points scored in a postseason game. The previous record was held by Georgetown (76.)
Saint Francis will be re-seeded and will find out who they will play in the second round of the playoffs tomorrow.
