FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Thanks to 33 points and 13 assists from Mo Evans, both career bests, Fort Wayne men’s basketball defeated UMass Lowell 94-81 on Saturday (Nov. 19) at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Evans’ 13 assists are the most by a Summit League player this year and tied for second by an NCAA Division I player this year. It is also the most by a Mastodon during the NCAA Division I era. (2001-02 to present).
His 33 points are tied for the most by a Summit League player this year. Omaha’s Marcus Tyus also scored 33.
The game featured eight lead changes and two ties, but none after 12 minute mark of the first half. Down 14-10, the ‘Dons took over the game with a 19-7 stretch over eight minutes. Evans had eight points in the run while John Konchar pitched in seven in the push.
Evans added five steals and three rebounds to his big day. He was 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Five total ‘Dons finished in double-digits. Bryson Scott had 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Brent Calhoun and Konchar each had 11 points. Konchar added 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Kason Harrell totaled 10 points.
The River Hawks drop to 1-3. Fort Wayne improves to 2-2.
The ‘Dons return to action on Tuesday (Nov. 22) against No. 6 Indiana at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Tip against the Hoosiers is set for 9 p.m. The game will be aired live on BTN. Doors at the Coliseum will open at 7:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early.
