Salvation Army seeks volunteer bell ringers

Teams, club, groups, co-workers, families and individuals can sign up to ring at or by calling Roxanne at 260-744-2311. Ringers will be at 45 locations on November 25. 2016 Red Kettle locations include Big Lots (all locations), Hobby Lobby, JC Penney, Kroger (all locations), Macy’s, Sam’s Club, Scott’s (all locations), Walgreen’s (all locations), and Wal-Mart (all locations), according to a press release from The Salvation Army.

83 cents of every dollar collected from the Red Kettles will go to The Salvation Army’s various programs, including Angel Tree, Card-A-Teen, and Adopt-A-Family programs. Over 2,000 children and families will apply to receive assistance from The Salvation Army this year, according to the press release.

“Although the unemployment rate has dropped, the number of families living in our poverty has risen in Allen County,” The Salvation Army Corps Officer Captin Luis Acosta said in a press release. “These families desperately need our help, and so we are asking those who able to give generously, knowing that will help their less fortunate neighbors.”

Acosta said in the press release the goal is to reach $622,000 in donations this year, a bit under 50% of The Salvation Army’s yearly operating budget.

People can also participate in the program by volunteering to become an online bell-ringer and hosting an Online Red Kettle. Participants can invite friends and family to donate to The Salvation Army on their behalf. Last year, the Online Red Kettle program raised $2.1 million. The overall fundraising goal this year is $4 million.
