FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – After scoring a team-high 27 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in Fort Wayne’s season opener forward Ben Bentil is leaving the Mad Ants to play overseas.

According to WANE-TV’s sources, Bentil has signed what is being described as a lucrative 60-day contract to play overseas. The team does expect Bentil to return to Fort Wayne after his 60-day contract is up. Bentil’s international contract has yet to be approved by the NBADL, but is expected to be in the near future.

Bentil was a second-round draft pick by the Boston Celtics this past summer. After being waived by Boston the Pacers signed him, only to release him the same day to send him to Fort Wayne. He played two seasons at Providence, averaging 21.1 points as a sophomore before declaring for the NBA draft.

With Bentil gone the Pacers have assigned forward Rakeem Christmas to the Mad Ants. Christmas played 48 games for the Ants last season averaging 13.9 points per game and 7.2 rebounds.

The Mad Ants will hold their home opener this Sunday at 5 p.m. at War Memorial Coliseum against Sioux Falls.
