FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A four-vehicle crash along Coliseum Boulevard mid-afternoon Tuesday left one person dead and another in police custody.
Police said a vehicle was heading east on Coliseum Boulevard near Clinton Street at a high rate of speed and hit a vehicle stopped for a red light. The driver of the car that was hit was in cardiac arrest when officers got there. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later pronounced dead. Two other vehicles stopped at the light were also hit, but no one in those cars were hurt.
The driver and a passenger in the eastbound car ran from the scene through retail parking lots.
Several minutes after the crash, police got a 911 call reporting that the car had been stolen. When officers met with the person who called 911, they realized he matched the description of the driver seen leaving the scene of the crash and detained him.
Crews closed Coliseum’s eastbound lanes and the northbound turn lane from Clinton to Parnell Avenue for several hours while investigators pieced together what happened.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne police and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
