FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry has been released from the hospital a week after undergoing heart bypass surgery, a city spokesman said Monday.
John Perlich said Henry’s recovery “continues to go well” and added the three-term Democrat is “resting comfortably” at home.
Henry underwent heart bypass surgery Nov. 7. According to Elizabeth Henry, Mayor Henry’s daughter, he had minor chest pains the Friday before, and his doctors found significant blockage in his chest.
Deputy Mayor Karl Bandemer was placed in charge of the city’s day-to-day operations in Henry’s absence.
Perlich said Monday that Henry would work from home for the next several days and return to regular work activities at Citizens Square “soon.”
“Mayor Henry and his family would like to thank the residents of Fort Wayne for their prayers and words of encouragement,” Perlich said.
