Officers were notified around 9:30 p.m. Saturday of a vehicle driving a possible shooting victim to a hospital. A short time later, a hospital notified FWPD about a shooting victim and a possible location of the shooting at 719 Walnut Street, according to FWPD Spokesman Officer Michael Joyner.

Joyner said the victim, a female, was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the victim as 23-year-old Jessica E. Bruch of Fort Wayne. Bruch died of a gunshot wound, the office said, but the manner of her death is pending further investigation.

Police are still working to determine what happened. Joyner said at the scene that investigators spoke with the person who transported the shooting victim about a possible location of the incident. Joyner said crime scene technicians and police were at a home on Walnut Street but they have yet determined if the shooting took place at the property.

Joyner did not say if police are looking for any suspects or what might have led to the shooting.

The incident is under investigation.
