Team of the Week: Blackhawk Christian Volleyball

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Blackhawk Christian looked like anything but a group of rookies in their first ever appearance in the state championship as the Braves jumped out to a two set lead to ultimately win the Class A state championship 3-1 over defending champs Christian Academy of Indiana.

This is the first volleyball state title in Blackhawk Chrisitan history and just the fourth championship in school history. They are also the first team besides baseball to bring home the hardware.

Senior Olivia Martin set a new Class A four-set record with 27 kills in the win. She hit .500 in the match and also led the Braves with 15 digs. Her effort on the court and her success off the court culminated in Martin winning the Class A Mental Attitude Award.

The Braves are coached by third year Lindsay Roth who led her team to the state championship while four weeks away from delivering her second child.
