FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Fort Wayne women’s volleyball team sent its four seniors out on top as the Mastodons swept Summit League co-leader South Dakota 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-22).
All four seniors contributed for the ‘Dons on the night, led by Somer Johnson’s double-double, 11 kills, 15 digs, and four blocks. Olivia Hahn had a match-high 20 digs and two aces while Jayna Colanese had six digs and two aces. Natasha Medic finished with four kills for the Mastodons.
Lauren Hoffman led all players with a match-high 13 kills. Nicole Rightnowar earned 10 kills while Natalie Seiler had a match-high five blocks.
The Mastodons rode an early wave of excitement from Senior Night as Colanese served the ‘Dons to the first five points of the match. The Coyotes came back to take a lead, and with the score tied 21-21, Fort Wayne was able to scored four of the final five points to win the set.
The Mastodons jumped out to a 6-1 advantage to begin the second set and never looked back. The ‘Dons trailed only once in the third set as USD scored the opening point. Fort Wayne scored the next five points to take the lead and eventually the set and the match.
Fort Wayne closes out the regular season when it travels to Oral Roberts on Nov. 11 for an 8 p.m. ET match.
