DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) Two people were hospitalized early Friday in a head-on crash along U.S. 6 in DeKalb County.
Police and medics were called around 6:30 a.m. Friday to U.S. 6 just east of C.R. 41 on a report of a crash. There, a 2006 Toyota Corolla and a 2014 Toyota Corolla collided.
According to a release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Tess M. Mader of Fort Wayne was westbound on U.S. 6 in her 2006 Corolla when, at the top of a hill, she swerved to miss an oncoming vehicle that witnesses said was driving in her lane. Mader then veered back onto the roadway and left-of-center and into the eastbound lane, where she hit a 2014 Corolla driven by Jennifer S. Poper of St. Joe.
Mader’s Corolla came to rest in the eastbound lane facing east. Poper’s Corolla ran off the right side of the road and overturned in a ditch, police said.
Mader was taken to DeKalb Health for treatment and was released. Poper was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center for treatment of neck pain and released. A 14-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy who were in Poper’s vehicle were not hurt.
