Teen arrested in connection to hit-skip crash that killed bicyclist

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department made an arrest Friday in connection with the fatal hit-skip crash that killed a bicyclist Monday night. The bicyclist was traveling at night along the 13000 block of Hand Road when he was killed.

With help from members of the community and surrounding law enforcement agencies, Aaron Daniel Moser, 19, of Decatur was arrested and taken to Allen County Jail. He faces one level 5 felony count of leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, resulting in death, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.

Police and medics were called to the scene just before 8 p.m., on a report of a personal injury crash. There, responders found a man dead, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.

An autopsy performed Tuesday by the Allen County Coroner’s Office determined that Nicholas James Mruk, 24, of Huntertown died from blunt force trauma due to being struck by a vehicle.

Witnesses told police that a second vehicle then pulled up and picked up the bicycle before it, too, drove off. Witnesses said that vehicle was possibly a dark-colored minivan.
