Nick Ferrer

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – University of Saint Francis quarterback Nick Ferrer earned his USF record seventh Mid-States Football Association Player of the Week honor for his 421 yard, six touchdown game in a 56-24 USF win on Saturday over Missouri Baptist University.

Ferrer (Westfield, IN / Westfield H.S.) threw for 421 yards on 22-for-30 passing, a .733 completion percentage, and touchdowns of 32, 58, 63, 62, 55 and 23 yards against the Spartans. His six TD game tied the USF record set former USF QB Jeremy Hibbeln (1998-01) set against Walsh in 2000. His seventh POTW honor breaks a tie with former USF linebacker Brian Kurtz (2003-06). This is Ferrer’s third POTW honor this season.

Ferrer’s six-TD performance also vaulted him into second on the 2016 NAIA TD list with 31, three back of Baker University quarterback Logan Brettell, who has 34. After his second career 400-plus yard game, Ferrer has moved up to No. 14 on the MSFA career passing yards list. He needs 240 yards to pass former USF QB Chris Bramell (2002-05) at No. 13 with 7,256 yards. Ferrer’s six TD performance gives him 77 career TD passes, which is No. 2 on the list behind Hibbeln, who finished with 107.

USF QBs have earned 17 POTW honors in 19 seasons, 50 offensive POTWs and USF now has 99 MSFA MEL POTW awards – offense (50), defense (35) and special teams (12).
