FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Fort Wayne police say two kids were hurt in a head-on crash Monday night.
Officers were called to the 4800 block of Hatfield Road around 7:50 p.m. on a report of a crash involving two vehicles. One boy was determined to be in critical condition at the scene and remains in critical condition at a local hospital. A second boy was in serious condition, but later downgraded to critical condition. A girl was in serious condition. Police have not released the ages of the juveniles. Three adults involved in the crash are in good condition.
A preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle was headed north on Hatfield Road when it crossed the center line and suddenly jerked as if to go back to its lane. That caused the back of it to swing around and it was hit by a vehicle that was southbound. The northbound vehicle was driven by an adult female. Alcohol and speed are suspected to be factors in the crash. Police said it’s not known if the children were wearing seat belts.
Two women were in the southbound vehicle and were not seriously hurt.
An investigation will continue.
