Standoff suspect tied to Indianapolis police office shots

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Authorities say a man arrested after a standoff with Indianapolis police is charged with murder in the slaying of a suburban man and linked to shootings at two Indianapolis police district offices.

Police arrested 21-year-old Damoine Wilcoxson of Indianapolis after the standoff at an east side apartment complex ended peacefully Monday afternoon. Police Chief Troy Riggs said an infant inside an apartment with Wilcoxson was taken to a hospital for a checkup after officers fired tear gas into the unit.

Simultaneously, Boone County Prosecutor Todd Meyer announced Wilcoxson is charged in connection with the Sept. 28 shooting death of 82-year-old John A. Clements of Zionsville. An affidavit says shell casings recovered from that crime scene match casings recovered at the two police offices after those shootings Oct. 4 and 13.

This story has been corrected to show the second police district office shooting occurred Oct. 13, not Oct. 14.
