FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Both Saint Francis and Indiana Tech’s men’s and women’s basketball teams opened their seasons with wins to advance to the Northern Lakes Insurance Classic championship games on Saturday.
In men’s hoops NAIA No.1 USF defeated Cincinnati Christian 117-90. Marion grad Vijay Blackmon led the way with 19 points in his first game for the Cougars. He was one of six USF players that reached double digits. No. 20 Indiana Tech advances to the championship game with an 81-54 win over Wright State Lake. The Warriors shot over 41% from the field and forced 16 turnovers.
Indiana Tech and USF will play in the championship game at 4:00PM on Saturday at the Hutzell Center.
USF’s women’s team defeated Cincinnati Christian 64-50. The Lady Cougars were led by Jalyn Folan’s 15 points. Kara Gerka had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Quila Jackson and Savannah Buck also reached double digits. They will play Indiana Tech who dominated Wright State 115-39. Haley Cook led all scorers with 32 points on 12-15 shooting, including 7-7 from behind the three-point line, and picked up four steals and dished out three assists.
The Lady Warriors and Lady Cougars will play in the championship game at 6:00PM on Saturday.
