FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police arrested 36-year-old Toriano Kurtz of Fort Wayne in connection to a woman who was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being stabbed Friday night.
Police were dispatched to a home in the 1200 block of Fairfield Ave. at 9 p.m. on the report of a domestic battery situation.
According to police, someone called 911 when they heard a struggle and a woman screaming. When officers got to the scene, they found a woman with apparent stab wounds. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Police said they believe the stabbing was the result of a domestic dispute and the suspect ran away before officers got there. Witnesses reported the suspect fled the scene on foot prior to the officer’s arrival. Detectives interviewed potential witnesses.
Officers stayed at the scene throughout the night and were later able to make arrest Kurtz in connection with the incident. Kurtz is facing preliminary charges including Level 3 Felony Aggravated Battery, Level 5 Felony Domestic Battery, and Misdemeanor Cruelty to an Animal.
The incident remains under investigation.
