Fort Wayne’s men’s and women’s basketball teams build hype at Mastodon Madness

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The men’s and women’s basketball teams kicked off the 2016-17 season Thursday (Oct. 27) evening with the annual Mastodon Madness event at the Gates Athletic Center.

The fans were treated to an exciting and entertaining evening, which entailed a dunk contest, a head-to-head three-point contest, a team three-point competition, performances from the cheerleaders, a Halloween costume contest and music from the pep band.

Mo Evans won the Meijer head-to-head three-point contest for the men’s basketball team over women’s basketball’s De’Jour Young.

The team of Nia Thomas, Bryson Scott, and a blue crew member, defeated the team of Peyton Fallis, Kason Harrell, and a blue crew member in the Auntie Anne’s team three-point competition.

Jordon King, Charles Ruise Jr. DeAngelo Stewart and Xzavier Taylor faced off in the Meijer dunk contest. King won the event.

To end the evening, the men’s and women’s basketball teams signed autographs for the fans and Mastodon bobbleheads were given away.

The Fort Wayne men’s basketball team will play an exhibition on Thursday (Nov. 3) against Capital at Gates. The women’s team will host Indiana Tech in an exhibition on Sunday (Nov. 6) at 2 p.m., also at Gates.
