Man found shot in motel parking lot

Police found a shooting victim at the Rodeway Inn on Goshen Road.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man was shot in a motel parking lot on Fort Wayne’s northwest side Wednesday evening.

Police were called to the Roadway Inn, 2920 Goshen Road, around 8 p.m. There, police found 21-year-old Spencir Klay Ballard of Fort Wayne down. Ballard was initially determined to be in serious condition, but was taken to a local hospital where he was downgraded to critical condition.

As it stands, the only information available was that someone heard gunshots, looked outside, and saw the man on the ground. Detectives were searching for anyone who may have witnessed the actual shooting. Crime scene technicians were searching for and collecting evidence.

Police spokesman Michael Joyner said early Thursday that police have made no arrests in the case and the investigation continues.

About an hour before the shooting, a man was shot and killed at Weisser Park on the city’s southeast side. Police have not said whether the two incidents are connected.

That shooting, too, is under investigation.
