FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – South Side stunned football fans in Northeast Indiana when the (1-8) Archers defeated (7-2) Leo 33-9 in the opening round of 4A sectional play.
South Side jumped out to a 12-3 lead over Leo heading into the final minutes of the first half before WR Torrese Bobo threw a 29-yard TD pass to Eldridge Wells to put the Lions behind 16 points at halftime. The Archers offense continued to pound the ball in the second half while the defense held Leo to just one score in the second half. QB Dennis Johnson was 16-of-33 with 327 yards and three touchdowns. Wells and A.K. King both had 100+ yard games.
The sectional victory is just the second win of the season for South Side. The Archers brought the Totem Pole back to South Side for the first time since 2009 with a 14-12 win over rival North Side.
Now 2-8 on the year South Side will host (9-0) New Haven in the second round of sectional action on Friday.
