Woman critically injured in shooting identified

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The woman involved in the shooting at a home in the 3500 block of New Haven Avenue has been identified. Police were dispatched to the residence at approximately 6:45 a.m. Sunday.

When officers arrived at the home they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The woman was initially determined to be in serious condition but was taken to an area hospital where she was determined to be in critical, according to a press release from the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The woman has been identified by the Fort Wayne Police Department as Charnice Morris, 29 of Fort Wayne.

A preliminary investigation by the FWPD found that Morris was inside the home when someone came to the front door and began shooting. The suspect then fled the scene.

Investigators are working to establish whether or not Morris was the intended target, what the relationship between Morris and the house is, and what led to shots being fired. Police had interviewed at least one witness at the police station, and are searching for any additional witnesses.

There is no suspect information at this time. Morris was last reported in critical condition.
