FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Indiana candidate for State Representative, 50th District, Democrat Jorge Fernandez wants to address teacher shortages, ISTEP testing, and education reform.
Fernandez was raised in Miami, FL and went to Taylor University. He has worked as a teacher at Southside High School for the last five years. As a teacher, Fernandez feels that teachers and parents are not involved in the process of voting, which affects legislation on education. More specifically, Fernandez believes government should prioritize the needs of individual communities, with less focus on testing and bringing an end to for-profit charter schools.
“I have seen teachers pushed aside on these issues way too many times,” Fernandez said.
Fernandez is running against Republican incumbent Dan Leonard and will be on the General Election ballot in November. To learn more about Fernandez and his policy positions, visit his Facebook page.
