Man allegedly steals motorcycle; flees into cornfield on foot

STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A man allegedly stole a motorcycle from a person’s garage and later ending up fleeing into a cornfield on foot.

Deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 8000 block of 350 N on a 911 call of a burglary. It was reported that a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle had been stolen from a garage and was last seen headed eastbound from the scene. Deputies searched the area for the motorcycle and a black Pontiac passenger car that was also reportedly involved, according to a press release from Steuben County Sheriff’s Department.

A short time later a family member of the property owner where the burglary took place saw the motorcycle traveling on a nearby road. The family member was able to stop the motorcycle, however the man then fled into a large cornfield and wooded area on foot.

A man matching the description given by witnesses was found by deputies walking in the 4100 block of CR 800 W a short time later. Thomas P. Crago, Jr., 20 of Syracuse was arrested and held at the Steuben County Jail on charges of burglary and auto theft, according to the press release.

The Pontiac car seen leaving the area was also located in a nearby field. It was later determined the vehicle belonged to Crago.

The incident remains under investigation by Steuben County authorities. Angola City Police assisted in the incident.
