FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Concordia dominated Yorktown, Luers picked up a win in Kokomo over Northwestern, and Big Train keeps rolling in Garrett as 3A sectional play began Friday night.
Class 3A – Sectional 26
3A no. 17 Garrett topped NECC rival Fairfield 42-16 at Falcon Field on Friday. Cam Smith carried the load for the Railroaders with 35 carries for 201 yards and five touchdowns. Garrett will play at Culver Academy (7-3) next week.
Class 3A – Sectional 27
3A no. 7 Concordia had little trouble dispatching Yorktown in sectional 27 play as the Cadets bested the Tigers 54-14. Peterson Kerlegrand led the way for the Cadets with 14 carries for 124 yards and three touchdowns. Peter Morrison was 20-for-30 for 311 yards and three scores, two of which went to Kamari Anderson-Drew. Yorktown was led by Dawson Allen with 15 carries for 105 yards and two scores. The Cadets will host Bellmont next Friday.
Down in Decatur it was Bellmont over Norwell 39-20. Caleb Hankenson returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown then added a rushing touchdown early in the second quarter to give the Braves a 13-0 lead. Matt Laughlin returned a fumble for a touchdown to make it 20-0 Braves. Bellmont travels to Concordia next Friday.
3A no. 15 Bishop Luers made the trip to Kokomo and defeated Northwestern 42-15. J’Lyn Charlton had six carries for 73 yards and three touchdown to pace Luers while Ty Hambright had three receptions for 90 yards and a score and two carries for 57 yards and a score. Luers will travel to Peru (8-2) next Friday.
